A stunning city in Africa has been named as the best place to visit in 2026.
Africa is a diverse continent that is home to many countries that offer unique and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Whether you’re interested in a beach holiday, a trip through the desert, a tranquil escape, or discovering some of the world’s most unique natural spots, Africa is the place to be.
However, many destinations remain overlooked or underrated, including Arusha in Tanzania, which Conde Nast Traveller says is a must-visit this year.
Tanzania welcomed more than two million international tourists in 2024, and while the majority of those visitors travelled to the likes of the country’s archipelago Zanzibar, travellers have been urged to visit Arusha for “a beloved icon’s opening in the city, and a new camp’s take on safari in the forest”, making it the perfect choice, particularly for those who love exploring.
This year marks the opening of a new museum that will include interactive exhibition areas, including a theatre and a Garden of Commitment, with the aim of educating people on conservation.
The Dr Jane Dream’s Goodhall Centre for Hope is set to open in October 2026, and will be located close to Arusha’s Cultural Heritage Centre.
The city already hosts a mix of activities to do, including visits to Arusha National Park, hiking to Materuni Waterfalls, and swimming in Kikuletwa Hot Springs.
The hidden gem nestled along Arusha and Tanzania’s northern town Moshi, was marked as a 2025 Travellers’ Choice destination by TripAdvisor, where it has an impressive 4.6 stars out of five rating.
On TripAdvisor, one visitor wrote: “Kikuletwa Hot Springs, also known as Chemka, is truly one of the most beautiful natural attractions in northern Tanzania. The crystal-clear turquoise water is unbelievably clean and refreshing, surrounded by lush greenery and palm trees that make the place feel like a hidden oasis.
“The water temperature is perfect for swimming and relaxing, and the depth allows both confident swimmers and beginners to enjoy safely.”
