A power outage in the Channel Tunnel has caused mass disruption
Passengers travelling on the Eurostar between Paris and London face delays of up to three and a half hours – or cancelled trains – due to an electrical failure in the Channel Tunnel.
Travellers using the Eurotunnel also face delays, with Le Shuttle services affected.
As of 12:45, six services have been cancelled; two round trips between London and Paris and one round trip between London and Brussels. However, the operator said no Eurostar trains were stuck in the tunnel.
“Due to a power outage in the Channel Tunnel and a technical issue on a Le Shuttle train, we strongly advise all passengers to postpone their journey to a later date,” said Eurostar in an update on its website.
“Please avoid going to the station unless you already have a ticket to travel today,” it added, and asked travellers to check live timetables on the Eurostar website or app.
“We are experiencing severe disruptions to our service due to a overhead power supply issue, services are delayed,” said Le Shuttle on its website.
It is likewise asking customers travelling today to keep up to date with travel information through official channels.
Today is a popular day for travel on the services, as families look to return home after Christmas celebrations or head off on a New Year’s holiday.
